Onyx & Kimoni's Story

One of the things I've learned through Stella Strong is that sometimes the people who need help the most are the ones least likely to ask for it.

The family behind this story wasn't looking for a handout. In fact, asking for help was one of the hardest parts.

Earlier this year, their world changed unexpectedly when their dog mom suffered a serious health event that required hospitalization and a lengthy recovery. Suddenly, she found herself focused on healing while also facing reduced work hours and mounting expenses.

At home, two young puppies—Onyx and Kimoni—were growing fast.

Like any puppies, they needed vaccinations, routine veterinary care, grooming, and all the important things that help young dogs get the best start in life. Before her health crisis, those appointments had already been planned. But life had other plans.

Faced with difficult financial decisions, she did what so many devoted pet parents do: she put her own recovery first so she could continue caring for the dogs she loved.

Unfortunately, that meant delaying some of the care her puppies needed.

When I read her nomination, I was reminded that life's challenges don't always arrive one at a time. Sometimes they show up all at once, forcing good people to make impossible choices.

That's exactly why Stella Strong exists.

Because of the generosity of the Stella Strong community, we were honored to provide a $250 grant to help Onyx and Kimoni receive the care they need while their mom focuses on what matters most—continuing her recovery and getting back on her feet.

The heart of Stella Strong has always been simple: dog families helping dog families through life's unexpected challenges.

We're grateful to play a small part in helping this family move forward, and we're sending lots of love to Onyx, Kimoni, and the person who loves them so much. 💜🐾
