Nova's Story

Nova's Story

A family facing the unimaginable, supported by a community that refused to let them face it alone.

Nova has been part of Brandy and Jason's family since she was just six weeks old. For eight years, she's been a loyal companion, growing up right alongside their family through every milestone.

Life had already been incredibly challenging. Their newborn baby boy had just come home after spending time in the NICU, and they were caring for their wonderful four-year-old daughter, who has Down syndrome. They were finally settling in as a family of four when they received devastating news.

Nova was diagnosed with chondroblastic osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer.

To prevent her leg from fracturing and to slow the spread of the disease, Nova underwent an emergency leg amputation. After multiple X-rays, blood work, and two biopsies, her veterinary team recommended six rounds of chemotherapy to give her the best possible chance.

The emotional weight of watching a beloved family member battle cancer is heartbreaking enough. Adding the financial burden of surgery, chemotherapy, and ongoing veterinary care can feel impossible.

When we shared Nova's story with the Stella Strong community, something extraordinary happened.

In just 48 hours, hundreds of compassionate people came together to raise more than $2,000, making it the largest Stella Strong grant awarded since the initiative began.

This grant won't erase Nova's diagnosis, but it will help ease some of the financial burden so Brandy and Jason can focus on what matters most—loving Nova, caring for their children, and spending every precious moment together as a family.

Nova's story is a beautiful reminder that even during life's hardest moments, kindness has a way of showing up. Because of this incredible community, one family was reminded they don't have to face this journey alone.

Thank you to every person who donated, shared Nova's story, and sent words of encouragement. You have become part of her story, and your generosity will forever be part of Stella's legacy.
