Another Stella
Stella Strong Grant Recipient #1: Another Stella
When I first launched Stella Strong, I wasn't entirely sure where the journey would lead. I just knew I wanted Stella's legacy to continue helping dogs and the people who love them.
The very first nomination I received was for another little dog named Stella.
Honestly, it felt like a sign.
This sweet Stella was nearly 16 years old. She was deaf, blind, and showing signs of canine cognitive decline. Through every chapter of her mom's life, Stella had been there—a loyal companion, a source of comfort, and a best friend.
But now her family was facing one of the most heartbreaking decisions any pet parent can make: knowing when it's time to say goodbye.
As I read her nomination, one sentence stopped me in my tracks:
"She has brought me so much joy, and I don't want to let her down."
As a single mother working two jobs, she was carrying not only the emotional weight of preparing to lose her beloved companion, but also the financial burden that often comes with end-of-life care.
Having recently lost my own Stella, her story hit close to home.
Because of the generosity of the Stella Strong community, we were able to provide a $250 grant to help ease some of that burden and allow this family to focus on what mattered most—loving Stella through her final chapter.
A few days later, I received an update that little Stella had peacefully crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
While no amount of money can lessen the pain of saying goodbye, I hope this small act of kindness helped her mom feel a little less alone during one of life's hardest moments.
I truly cannot think of a more meaningful first Stella Strong grant recipient than another dog named Stella.
This is exactly why Stella Strong exists: dogs helping dogs, and dog lovers helping other dog lovers through life's most difficult moments.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Stella Strong. Because of you, Stella's legacy continues to make a difference—one family at a time. ❤️🐾
